Eligibility

Accessible Service is available to anyone with a permanent or temporary visual or physical disability, such as:

  • Low vision and blindness
  • Recovery from cataract surgery
  • Inability to hold a physical book
  • Dyslexia

Materials and formats available

In addition to materials available to everyone, such as large print books, you also have access to books in following formats:

  • Physical audiobooks in CD, MP3, and DAISY formats
  • Downloadable audiobooks to listen to on your computer, tablet, or portable device
  • Books in Braille
  • eBooks in PDF and eText formats

Selecting and borrowing books

We can select books on your behalf based on your reading preferences. You can also search the following catalogues to request physical items or download reading materials immediately.

If a title you are looking for is not available, we can submit a request to NNELS to have an accessible audiobook made for you, as long as the title has not been produced commercially.

You can pick up your reading materials from the Library.

Equipment to read and listen to books

You can read and listen to books in accessible format on DAISY players, tablets, smartphones, and computers. The CELA website and NNELS website provide a good summary of different compatible devices and formats.

If you do not have a device, audiobook players with big, easy-to-see buttons are available for loan at the Library.
