Library fee changes
Starting September 14, 2026, the Port Moody Public Library will no longer charge fines for overdue items. Charges will still apply for lost or damaged items. There will also be a new $0.25 charge for holds not picked up or cancelled before the expiry date.
Read below to learn more about these changes to our Fees and Charges policy.
New charge for holds not picked up
A charge of $0.25 will be applied for each physical hold that is not picked up or cancelled before the expiry date. This fee is intended to encourage the timely pickup or cancellation of holds, so that more people can enjoy high-demand items.
You can cancel your holds at any time by logging in to My account. As long as you cancel before the expiration date, you will not be charged. You can also call the Accounts desk at 604-469-4575 to cancel your hold, or ask us in person.
If you are unable to pick up requested items from the library, you can pause your holds until a specific date. This will keep your place in line until the hold is resumed. Holds can only be paused prior to the hold pickup notification.

No more overdue fines
Port Moody Public Library will go fine free on September 14, 2026. This decision was made after careful consideration of community input and the experiences of other library systems. Eliminating late fines removes financial barriers, supports equity, and helps everyone enjoy the library to its fullest.
If an item is not returned within 21 days of its due date, a lost item charge will be added to your account. This charge will be removed if you return the item within 90 days of the lost date.
All fines for overdue items will be waived in September. Other charges, such as for lost or damaged items, will remain on your account.
Interlibrary loans are subject to charges set by the lending library, which may include fees for overdue, lost, or damaged items. Any such fees will be passed on to the borrower.
You can support the library by making a financial donation.
Lost and damaged items
Borrowers will still be charged for lost and damaged items. An item not returned within 21 days of its due date will be billed as lost. This charge will be removed if the item is returned within 90 days of the lost date.
You can check your account using the Port Moody Public Library App or by viewing your account online.
Borrowing privileges may be suspended when charges for lost or damaged materials exceed $10. You can still borrow items as long as you owe less than $10.
Charges exceeding $100 may be forwarded to a collection agency.
